How Food Safety Training Makes a Difference

Posted on 13 November, 2024

Food safety training is vital when feeding kids in Africa. Foodborne illnesses can affect anyone, but have far more devastating consequences on populations that are already malnourished.

Let’s examine the risks foodborne illnesses pose and learn more about how Le Coeur promotes food safety.

What Are Foodborne Illnesses?

Foodborne illness, also known as food poisoning, is caused by bacteria, parasites, toxins or pathogens contaminating food or beverages. Foodborne pathogens are acquired through recreational or drinking water, contact with animals and person-to-person spread.

There are many symptoms of foodborne illness, including vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, fever, cramps, aching and fatigue. Flulike symptoms may also be a sign of a foodborne illness.

With a dedicated food safety training program, organizations can prevent the spread of foodborne illness. By requiring employees to wash their hands, sanitize work surfaces, wear gloves and thaw, store and document temperatures properly, we do our part to protect Ugandan children.

Food Safety Training at Le Coeur

At Le Coeur, we are committed to proper food safety training. This is not only important for protecting the children in our care, but for our employees and beneficiaries as well.

In our part of the world, food safety is not commonly practiced. Food is often served to others with bare hands, and cross contamination is all too common between cooking materials and raw meats.

We believe wholeheartedly in not only providing children with safe food, but educating our employees in the highest standards of food safety. We train our employees with the thought that if they were to immigrate to a country such as the United States, they would have the expertise to work within the food industry.
